WHAT ABOUT PRACTICALS?
The above course is very practical.  I have included mainly practical aspects of filmmaking in the course material. However, you still need to include a practical exercise in your course. For the final leg of your course you will be required to travel to either Johannesburg or Cape Town for a weekend to attend a student filmmaking exercise. During this weekend you will be included in the making of a student film.
Your job will be to assist the Producer and Director on set as a Production Assistant.  If you are unable to attend the practical element, we will still issue you with a certificate for the theory part of the course.

WHAT ABOUT ACCOMMODATION?
If you have friends or family living in either Johannesburg or Cape Town then you are fortunate and can stay with them.  If not, we can recommend affordable accommodation with our two guest houses in Johannesburg or Cape Town.

HOW DOES THE CORRESPONDENCE COURSE WORK?
Once you have registered for the course you are ready to begin your studies.
You can order the whole course in one go, or you can order a module at a time.
If you order the whole course in one go, you can take your time studying, provided you complete your course within the 3 month period. If you order 1 Module at a time, you will recieve one Module every week. Each Module has an Assignment which you have to complete. The completed Assignments can be returned to the school as follows:
* A hard copy of the Assignment can be faxed back to the school
* An electronic copy can be mailed to you for completion, and you can email this copy back to the school
* We can send you a hard copy via the post and you can return completed assignemtns back to us via the post

WHAT DO I RECEIVE AFTER I COMPLETE THIS COURSE
All students who complete our courses receive a Certificate.
But remember one very important point: A piece of paper is never going to help you get a job on a film set! You still have to convince the Employer to hire you and most people get hired based on their level of experience.  Unless you are an intern, in which case a certificate would help.

CAN I STILL JOIN FABULOUS CREW IF I STUDY THROUGH CORRESPONDENCE?
Yes, you are still able to join the film crew agency, even if you study through correspondence. However, the choice of representing you still remains ours to make. We will evaluate you during your Practical (student film shoot).
If you complete all your Assignments and we find that you are competent and diligent during your practical, we may choose to represent you. If we choose to represent you, we will help you find work as a Runner or PA. Unfortunately you will need to LIVE in one of the cities (Johannesburg or Cape Town) in order to be represented for work as employers often require you to go in for an interview before they hire you.

HOW DO I REGISTER
To register, simply contact us and we will email you a registration form.
Call us on (021) 788-9014 during office hours.

HOW WILL I RECEIVE MY COURSE MATERIAL?
We will courier your material to you through Speed Services at the Post Office.
You will need to provide us with the name of your nearest Post Office. Once we have sent your material, you will receive a Tracking Number via sms. To collect your course material, simply give the teller at the Post Office the Tracking Number which we sent you via email.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT TO EARN IN THE FILM INDUSTRY AFTER I COMPLETE THE COURSE?
Runners in the Film Industry earn between R400 and R500 per day.  Cape Town tends to be very seasonal and nothing much happens over the winter period.  Summers can be very busy and some people work almost every day during the summer months. Johannesburg tends to be busier, with work slowing down a little over winter.

WHAT OTHER QUALIFICATIONS DO I NEED TO BE A RUNNER?
Besides having completed your course with the film school, it would be in your best interest to have a Valid Driver's Licence.  Runners with a vaild Driver's Licence get more work. Runners with a valid PDP Licence get even MORE work, so that is something you might like to consider getting as well.
