Founder & Principal of AUTEUR FILM SCHOOL, Amour Setter began making film projects in the 80's and joined the film industry full-time in 1991. A former trained actor, Amour comes from a theatre family and was exposed to showbiz from a very early age. Her Paternal Grandparents were pioneers of travelling theatre in South Africa. They lived in a travelling bus and toured the country presenting theatre productions in their early youth, and later progresed to acting in feature films in the 70's.
Amour's Maternal uncle, Deon Vosloo was also a well-known stage actor & puppeteer; his son, Arnold Vosloo (of THE MUMMY fame) has gone on to make a name for himself in the film industry in Hollywood.
Amour was compelled to start a film school in 2006 after experiencing great difficulties with young people coming into the industry. At the time Amour operated a film production company where she held the position of Executive Producer to six young film directors. She found juniors and assistants being booked to her from crew agencies lacking in training and experience. The film school was born in February 2006, initially only offering Runner and PA short courses. The film school now offers correspondence courses in Filmmaking, Film Production, Film-Acting, Film-Directing, Scriptwriting, Editing, TV Presenting and Cinematography. Amour trains and mentors students from across the world, including countries like Botswana, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Nigeria, India, Thailand and the USA.
The school curriculum is constantly being updated with current information regarding working standards, technology and methodology and Amour's mentorship approach is well-received by her students. Many of her former students have gone on to forge successful careers in the film and television industry. Amour's obvious passion for her craft and commitment to sharing her vast ocean of knowledge and experience with budding film-makers makes her an outstanding lecturer and admirable mentor. Studying under her is engaging, fulfilling and motivating beyond words.
